Dr. Phyo Myint

Phyo worked in EPIC-Norfolk as a clinical research associate between 2004-2005 under the supervision of Prof. K-T Khaw. He continues to work with EPIC-Norfolk investigators as a visiting research associate of the Clinical Gerontology Unit, University of Cambridge.

He qualified in 1995 from the Institute of Medicine (I), Yangon, Myanmar (formerly Burma) and started his postgraduate medical training in the UK in 1997. He completed his higher medical specialist training in March 2008 with accreditations in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine with sub-specialty in Stroke Medicine.

He is currently a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Ageing and Stroke Medicine in the School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice, University of East Anglia. He is the Unit leader for Circulation Unit and also the teaching co-ordinator for the Stroke module within the Circulation Unit for undergraduate students at University of East Anglia medical school. He is also an Honorary Consultant Physician at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Foundation NHS Trust.

Phyo's research interests include clinical epidemiology of healthy ageing, determinants and outcome of stroke and post-stroke complications, community-acquired pneumonia in the elderly and health services research.

He practises evidence-based medicine by trying to take at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables, a few cups of coffee (without sugar) and a glass of wine every day.
